Could this ever be as good as smoked ribs? Rubbed ribs?\u00a0Smothered in sauce ribs? I will wager these ribs will make you think twice about doing them any other way. It took me almost a year to perfect this recipe. Trial after horrible trial, really, I had to eat every one of those ribs until\u00a0this recipe\u00a0was perfect! It\u2019s tough work and someone must do it&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I had tasted BBQ'd ribs in a Dutch oven a couple of years ago. Quite a surprise tasted like BBQ, very juicy and falls off the bone tender. Resolved to duplicate this incredible meal outdoors and with the same style, flavor and finesse, I set to work. My original plan was an exact duplicate of the original recipe, which tends to change at every attempt unless you follow a written recipe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A 12\u201d Dutch oven was my first choice of pots. Cut my ribs in half and layer them. This seemed to result in an uneven coating of BBQ sauce so I switch to a 14\u201d with the same results. Stacking the ribs was not what I was looking for; do not get me wrong, the ribs were awesome every time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cabela\u2019s had my solution, an oval Dutch oven which they call a \u201cOval Roaster\/Griddle\u201d.\u00a0You can see the roaster in the pictures below and I will do a thorough review in my next post. I will also be sharing my rub and Dutch oven equipment, so stay tuned\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After many enjoyable trials and maybe a couple of errors, here you go:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Ingredients:<\/span><\/strong><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">1\u00a0&#8211; Rack of ribs (Trimmed, I prefer St. Louis cut)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">(New) Honey mustard to coat<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Rub of your choice or use one of my favorites: (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cooking-outdoors.com\/basic-barbecue-rub.html\">http:\/\/www.cooking-outdoors.com\/basic-barbecue-rub.html<\/a>)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">1 &#8211; Red Bell Pepper<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">1 &#8211; Yellow Bell Pepper<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">1 &#8211; Red Onion<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">1 &#8211; Bottle of BBQ Sauce (I use Trader Joe's Kansas City\u00a0BBQ sauce)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">1 &#8211; Bottle of Dark Beer. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">1 &#8211; 14&#8243; Dutch oven or 1 Oval Dutch oven roaster\u00a0(Cabela's)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Recipe:<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Wash and trim ribs. Remove skin on back of ribs with a paper towel. Dry completely , apply a light coating of Honey mustard to all surfaces of ribs\u00a0and\u00a0coat your ribs with the BBQ\u00a0rub on\u00a0all sides. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Slice Bell peppers and Onion, place in bottom of Dutch <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">oven.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"fw_image_computer fwSizeProp aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 8px; width: 506px; height: 380px; border: 0px none;\" title=\"Sliced onions and bell peppers for Dutch oven ribs\" src=\"http:\/\/ccdoa.webs.com\/Recipes\/P3020152.JPG\" alt=\"Sliced onions and bell peppers for Dutch oven ribs\" width=\"506\" height=\"380\" border=\"0\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Place rubbed ribs on top of Bell peppers and Onion. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"fw_image_computer fwSizeProp aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 8px; width: 511px; height: 383px; border: 0px;\" title=\"Best Dutch oven barbequed rib's you'll ever taste!\" src=\"http:\/\/ccdoa.webs.com\/Recipes\/P3020153.JPG\" alt=\"Best Dutch oven barbequed rib's you'll ever taste!\" width=\"511\" height=\"383\" border=\"0\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Pour BBQ sauce on top of ribs, enough to cover thickly. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Pour 1\/2 to 3\/4 of beer\u00a0around sides to coat bottom, I usually same some for me, maybe 1\/3 of cooks sample.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"fw_image_computer fwSizeProp aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 8px; width: 509px; height: 382px; border: 0px;\" title=\"Best Dutch oven barbequed rib's you'll ever taste!\" src=\"http:\/\/ccdoa.webs.com\/Recipes\/P3020154.JPG\" alt=\"Best Dutch oven barbequed rib's you'll ever taste!\" width=\"509\" height=\"382\" border=\"0\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000000;\">Cooking time:<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Try to cook at least two hours. Depending on your pot <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">and weather conditions, start out with the basic three <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">up three down formula and work from there. 350\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">degrees seems to be the best for me. (I\u2019 cover this later also) Cook up <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">to three hrs and you might have to use a spoon to eat <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">your ribs.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Here is my oval roaster sitting on two lid holders. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Worked great!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"fw_image_computer fwSizeProp aligncenter\" style=\"margin: 8px; width: 509px; height: 382px; border: 0px;\" title=\"Best Dutch oven barbequed rib's you'll ever taste!\" src=\"http:\/\/ccdoa.webs.com\/Recipes\/P3020155.JPG\" alt=\"Best Dutch oven barbequed rib's you'll ever taste!\" width=\"509\" height=\"382\" border=\"0\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 14.25pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">All done and lookin\u00a0good!!
