The Life of a D.O.G. Poem<\/h2>\n

This poem was written by a friend of mine Dee McMillian at the 2010 IDOS World Championship Dutch oven Cook-offs a few weeks past. Just had to share it with all of my Dutch oven fans.<\/p>\n

The Life of a D.O.G.<\/h2>\n

A real dog. I'm not talking about<\/h3>\n

but Dutch oven Gathering which are also known as a cookout.<\/h3>\n

It is where friends gather around and cook in cast iron pots over charcoal<\/h3>\n

and you can do it any time, in heat or the cold.<\/h3>\n

Yep all seasons, summer, winter, spring and fall,<\/h3>\n

and it is a lot of fun had by all.<\/h3>\n

All kinds of cooking you can do like boiling, baking, and cooking stew<\/h3>\n

and that's just to name a few.<\/h3>\n

New things folks are always trying<\/h3>\n

Roasting, steaming and even frying.<\/h3>\n

It is something folks have been doing for hundreds of years<\/h3>\n

and from its popularity it will be going on a whole lot longer it appears.<\/h3>\n

Just throw a few coals together and get them hot<\/h3>\n

and prepare what you are going to cook and put them in the pot.<\/h3>\n

Put some hot coals on the ground<\/h3>\n

and then place your pot down.<\/h3>\n

Cover with some more coals and just sit back and wait<\/h3>\n

and when it's done just grab a plate.<\/h3>\n

You are never to young or old to learn<\/h3>\n

and it doesn't even matter if it burns.<\/h3>\n

It is about being outdoors and being with friends<\/h3>\n

and it looks like it will never end.<\/h3>\n

Yep, I imagine when you get to heaven and beyond the pearly gates,<\/h3>\n

you will see some of your old cooking mates.<\/h3>\n

And Dutch ovens they will be gathered around<\/h3>\n

that's where your old friends will be found.<\/h3>\n

But in heavn a Dutch oven will no longer be made of cast iron, but of gold<\/h3>\n

so I guess Dutch oven Gatherings will never get old.<\/h3>\n
