One of my readers, Laura from\u00a0Dallas, Texas,\u00a0\u00a0does and\u00a0she wants to know how to do it on a stove top! Not something I have ever done with Cast Iron before so I dug up some help and I thought I would share the info with you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>From Laura:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Question for you&#8211;by the way, LOVE your website. \u00a0I get really jazzed about cooking outdoors when we go camping and motivated to do more on our giant hibachi at home.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>I want to try cornbread in my cast iron skillet on our camp stove (may not be possible to cook it on the big community campfire on our camp out). I do not have \u00a0a dutch oven though. Do you think it would work to cover the skillet with a couple layers of foil and cook it on the stove\/fire for a bit? How long?<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Thanks for any advice you might be able to offer.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Laura<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Here is where I contacted my friend Natalie Brown from <\/strong><strong>Camp Chef<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Gary,<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1104 alignnone\" style=\"margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;\" title=\"Stove Top Corn Bread\" alt=\"Stove Top Corn Bread\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cooking-outdoors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/castIronSouthernCornbread_184766-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>I\u2019m not sure how well it would work with just the tinfoil, but I think if she used it with the Dutch oven dome it should work.\u00a0 We have never done it over an open fire, but we have done it on one of our stoves, and it worked great.\u00a0 We used our trivet on the bottom <\/em><em>and then put the pan on that and then covered it with the Dutch dome.\u00a0 The trivet allows more heat to circulate around the pan, so you will get a more even heat and won\u2019t completely burn the bottom.\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>I hope this helps!\u00a0 Let me know if you have any other questions.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Natalie<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thanks Natalie!!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>And here are my final thoughts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Laura,<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1105 alignnone\" style=\"margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;\" title=\"Stove Top Corn Bread\" alt=\"Stove Top Corn Bread\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cooking-outdoors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/medium_cast-iron-skillet-cornbread-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>Did some fast research and came up with this: <\/em><em>http:\/\/www.deltablues.net\/cbread.html<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Great article and it should do what you want to. I am going to try this myself.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Also you could use a &#8220;Dutch oven Dome&#8221; or try flipping the bread in the pan if you don't want a pale top. <\/em><em>I don't think the foil will help much and I wouldn't place coals on the foil.
